St. Joseph's is a primary school located in the centre of Ballinrobe.  We cater for boys and girls from Junior Infants through to sixth class.  We are a Catholic School under the patronage of the Bishop of Tuam.  Our teachers are fully qualified and have a vast range of experiences, talents and special interest.  They work as a team to prepare, plan and deliver a high quality education to our pupils.

Mission Statement

St Joseph’s is a school which strives to provide a well-ordered, caring, happy and secure learning environment, where the intellectual, spiritual, physical,  moral and cultural needs of our pupils are identified and addressed.
We aim to provide an appropriate, stimulating and broadly challenging education for all of our pupils. We endeavour to enhance the self-esteem of everyone in the school community, to imbue in the pupils respect for themselves, for other people and for property and to encourage the development of personal responsibility. We aim to prepare our pupils for their place in a modern multicultural society by actively promoting equality and by celebrating the diversity we have within our school community.
St Joseph’s Primary School encourages our pupils to be environmentally aware and have an appreciation of our community.

Curriculum (from NCCA)

The Primary school Curriculum (1999) outlines the contents of children’s learning-the what and how of children’s learning for children’s first eight years in school, from Junior Infants to Sixth class. The curriculum aims to:  Develop each child's potential to the full, Encourage a love of learning & Help children develop the skills they will use all their lives.

The curriculum is presented in seven areas, some of which are further divided into subjects. These are: Language, Mathematics, SESE, Arts Education, Physical Education, SPHE & Religious Education.

Assessment

Assessment in primary school is about building a picture over time of a child’s learning progress across the curriculum. The teacher uses different ways to gather evidence about how and what the child learns on an ongoing basis. This information is used to celebrate the child’s current learning, and to help make decisions about next steps for future learning.
