We were delighted to organise an event for European Maker Week: https://europeanmakerweek.eu/
Ms. Hughes organised workshops in STEM to promote problem solving and computational thinking. We made balloon cars, lollipop stick bridges, newspaper towers and connected the MAKEY MAKEY to our computer to play Super Mario! Pam from Limerick IT ran a workshop using Micro:bits. We really enjoyed the day and learned lots without any books! Congratulations to both girls and boys who played in the Cumann na mBunscoil South Mayo division matches in Bekan last Friday. Both teams reached the final which was a great achievement. Huge thanks to their trainer Pat and sports co-ordinator Ms. Grimes.
The Be Active After School programme has commenced with 2nd class after school every Tuesday. The programme is run in conjunction with teachers and parents. It will run for five Tuesdays in total. Here are the children and parents that participated in the first day. We all loved it!

Emi competed with her pony Danny in Individual Novice (70/80 cms) Showjumping. Cadhla competed with her pony Milford Lad in Individual Open (80/90 cms) Showjumping and Individual Dressage. Rebecca competed with her pony Bilco in Individual and Team Dressage. Cadhla won the Individual Open Showjumping after an exciting jump off against the clock. Rebecca won the Individual Primary Schools Dressage and Cadhla got second place in the Individual Primary Schools Dressage. A fun day was had by all participants. Wonderful achievements for St. Joseph's and we look forward to more schools equestrian events in the future. We will be updating this folder full of photos to share what's happening in our school. Lots to look forward to including dance, orienteering, yoga, football, walking, teddy bears picnic and much more!
Ms, Hughes' 5th Class have been trying to solve the problem of how to reduce tinfoil usage in our school. They collected data, represented it on graphs, created posters to highlight the issue, created fact sheets, calculated costs and provided alternatives.
