Congratulations to all who took part in Mobility week 2019 and especially today to those who went car free. We had 99% walking to school.
To finish the week we had our first green school assembly. We heard about what everyone was up to for mobility week as as well as environmental news: rain-forest destruction, stopping bonfires and why it's good to walk. Well done to all the classes that took part & our green school team who were amazing presenters. Global citizenship is never far from our minds. Today we also remembered children's global action day through song and we made banners to remind us how to be an earth activist. Finally a big thank you to Eamonn Marrey who held a bike maintenance class for 5th and 6th. We are promoting mobility week here in St. Joseph's with everyone making an even bigger effort to walk or cycle to school. You can read all about what's involved on the link: http://www.mobilityweek.eu/
September Newsletter Dear Parents, We hope you and your children have had a good start to the new school year. Our new Junior Infants are settling in well and getting used to the routines of ‘big school’. We also welcomed new pupils to other classes and they have settled in very well and are making new friends. We are looking forward to a productive partnership with you to ensure our children can achieve their highest potential. A strong partnership with you will make a great difference in your child’s education. We ask that you guide and support your child’s learning by ensuring that she/he: Attends school daily and arrives on time Completes all homework given by teachers Reads daily to develop a love for reading and to improve literacy skills Shares school experiences with you so that you are aware of his/her school life Parents Committee: We would like to thank our Parents Committee for the valuable contribution they have made to our school over the last year. They organised a variety of events and purchased the new playground equipment which can be seen at the back of the school. Upcoming events for September:
This year marks the roll out of the Primary Language Curriculum for Junior Infants through to 6th class. Our focus for School Self Evaluation is Oral Language. Lunch : Children need a reusable lunchbox for healthy school lunches and a reusable bottle. Please ensure your child has no single use plastic or tinfoil as we are a Green School. Children will bring home all waste. Traffic As you are aware parking is limited at the school. Please drive slowly in the vicinity of the school and do not park in such a way as to block the flow of traffic. Do not park on the outside lane –this is a drive through only. Do not turn right when exiting from the drop off areas. Please do not park in the teachers carpark or block the entrance. We will continue this term with our Walk to School inter class competition. When children walk to and from school or take the bus they win a point for their class. There is a weekly prize of a gym class or fun activity for the winning. Monday 16th is the start of Mobility Week. We encourage children to walk or cycle to school. Friday 20th will be our car free day. Birthdays: Please remember that we do not have birthday parties at school. Teachers cannot accept cakes or party bags for the children. We also remind you that party invitations are not to be given out in school. Lost property: Please put your child’s name on all clothes items…jumpers, tracksuits, jackets, hats, scarves etc. We have a lost property section in the secretary’s office. A big thank you to Ms. May's class who brought in some froglets from the local pond. We had great fun seeing how little they were. WOW starts up this week to celebrate mobility week. Well done as always to all those that walk to and from school.
Take time to think !!! Maybe you ask yourself why walk? Two euro in your pocket! A healthier environment as less CO2. A healthier child both physically and mentally. Finally it’s fun. Hope to see you out and about. ️ WOW Muinteoir Niamh Welcome back to all and a special welcome for all our new pupils and parents. September is a busy time of year for all here in St. Joseph's.
